According to an industry source, the Yankees might make a run at Mike Cameron this offseason if his $10 million option is declined by the Brewers.  Cameron was suspended for the first 25 games of the 2008 season for violating the league's substance abuse policy.  Cameron hit .243 for the Brewers with 25 Home Runs and 70 Runs Batted In, which is not bad for being suspended 25 games.  The downside is that he struck out a whopping 142 times and is 36 years old.  Yankee General Manager Brian Cashman would not comment specifically on Cameron saying: "I am not going to tell you that's right or not," Cashman said. "We are going to do whatever to make the team better, that's the bottom line."

Cameron would not be a good signing for the Yankees.  He strikes out way too much and would cost around $10 million dollars.  That money could be better spent elsewhere like on a pitcher.  They could easily play Brett Gardner in center and be fine.  Gardner is lightning fast.  If he hits around .270, he will steal around 60 bases.  That's perfectly fine for a number 9 hitter, especially if the Yankees sign Mark Teixeira to play first base.  They would regret the Cameron signing within a month guaranteed.

Mike Cameron would be a bad idea for the Yankees. Cameron is too old, in a few years he will be gone. The Yankees are already spening too much money on players that don't produce. It would be much easier if they gave the younger players a chance, such as Brett Gardner, Shelly Duncan, and Justin Christian. Younger players are cheap, and don't usually make stupid decisions that create team problems.
