Amid Economic Downturn, MLB Teams Cutting Ticket Prices

dodgers tickets.jpgAt least 16 of the 30 MLB teams are either "freezing or decreasing prices for season ticket holders" for the 2009 season, according to Antonen and Lacques of USA TODAY.  Last season only the Giants, Pirates, and Rays failed to increase ticket prices as the average ticket price for the entire league during the 2008 season climbed 10.1% from the 2007 season.

This is good news for fans.  Ticket prices have gotten ridiculous and especially in this economy are almost impossible for the average fan to afford.  Teams will also get good press for reducing ticket prices showing that they care for their fans.  In actuality it is a good business strategy for these teams as more fans will be able to afford tickets, thus in the long run most likely bringing more fans into the stadium next season.
