Charlie Weis Will Remain Notre Dame Head Coach

Charlie Weis, heavily scrutinized by fans and the media, will remain the head football coach of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish for at least one more season.  It will be his fifth season as coach.  He started off with a bang, perhaps in thanks to one Brady Quinn.  Since Quinn left, Notre Dame has been, well, awful.  They are 9-15 in the last 2 years under Weis and they have hit rock bottom.  They are coming off back-to-back losses against Syracuse, who is worse than them, and rival USC, who destroyed them 38-3.

Thumbnail image for pg2_w_weis_195.jpgThe move to keep Weis is not a good one.  Notre Dame has a rich history as a winning school.  The 15 losses in these past two years are the most ever by a Notre Dame team in that span.  It's obvious that something isn't working and Weis is probably the biggest part of it since he calls the shots both on the field and in recruiting.  Even though he has seven years left on his ten year deal, they should fire him and start over new.  Absorbing that money is better than losing again and again.

The problem is Weis is a good offensice cooridantor, but not that effective as a head coach. Although he had some stellar seasons in the pros, he was only running the offense. His recruiting and records prove he is not ready to be the head guy yet and the Irish need to find someone better suited for the job to get back to the powerhouse status they used to have.

This is a bad decision for the Irish. They need someone who can deal better with the recruiting aspect of college football and someone who can find true talent. Their normally strong program has become somewhat of a joke in the past couple seasons with Weis as the head coach and it is time to move on. If the Irish want to become the powerhouse that they once were they need to move on and find someone who is a better all-around coach.
