Renteria Close to Deal with Giants
Edgar Renteria's agent said his client and the San Francisco Giants are closing in on a deal to make Renteria the Giants new shortstop. Renteria is looking for a 2-year deal somewhere in the range of $18 million. Renteria who has bounced around from the Red Sox, Braves and Tigers in the past three years is looking to find a home in San Francisco. This would make sense for both parties, Renteria would get his cut while the Giants would gain a reliable bat to add to their lineup as well as play everyday at short. Last year the Giants had many different players try to replace the injured Omar Vizquel, none of which really worked out. This year it looks like the Giants will sign Renteria who is one of the two best free agent shortstops out there. The Giants, who always have seemed to have holes in their lineup would get a solid #2 hitter to place in front of the big RBI guys. This seems like a good move for the Giants who are looking to get a little offense to go along with their rotation and Cy Young award winner Tim Lincecum.
