Yankees Still Waiting On Sabathia

About two weeks ago, the New York Yankees made a 6 year offer to C.C. Sabathia worth around $140 million dollars.  They are still waiting for an answer from him.  Many media outlets believe that Sabathia is waiting for a substantial offer from a West Coast team (Dodgers, Angels, Giants).  He is from that area and his wife wants him to play there.  Sabathia is the ace that the Yankees have been looking for since Roger Clemens' first stint with the team.  Make no mistake about it, they need pitching.  The ideal offseason would be to sign Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, and Derek Lowe.

Thumbnail image for spo0g.jpgThe Yankees should wait however long they have to, to obtain Sabathia.  They need him.  When they had great pitching staffs, they won World Series.  That is the main goal in baseball.  You want your team to win the championship.  Sabathia would go a long way in making that happen.  If you add him to a rotation with Chien-Ming Wang and Joba Chamberlain with perhaps A.J. Burnett, you have a championship caliber rotation.

Although it seems like Sabathia is dragging this thing out, it is probably a smart move. He probably won't receive any bigger offers than the one from the Yanks, but he might push them to give him a couple more bucks. The Yanks might be getting a little nervous that he hasn't signed yet and anxious to pull him in therefore giving him a few more dollars in the contract.

I feel that the yankees are being smart about the way they are going after sabathia. They are showing that they arent going to jsut sit around and wait for him because then they might lose out on other free agents. They are still going to be gioing after big time free agents like a.j Burnett and Texiera and Lowe. As logn as the Yankees can get some big time starter for their rotation they should be set for the season.
