Tickets.com and Buffalo Sabres
After the Buffalo Sabres, a NHL Eastern Conference's Northeastern Division team, had their best season in 2005-06, many fans bought season tickets, taking up the best seats at HSBC Arena, which was a huge positive for the organization. The downfall for all the season tickets being sold was when the ticket holders did not show up to the games causing concessions as well as parking to lose revenue. The Sabres wanted to satisfy season ticket holders in addition to creating opportunities for other fans by selling the unused season ticket holders' seats. The Sabres teamed up with Tickets.com by creating "My Replay" which allowed season ticket holders to sell their tickets to other fans. This gave the opportunity for other fans to get seats in games that were sold out and most likely better seats than they would have gotten elsewhere. "My Replay" is a safe way for buying and selling tickets because it recoups the money to the season ticket holders as well as giving the new buyers a different code on the ticket. This new code would deny access to the season ticket holder's code thus allowing the new buyer access to the game. "My Replay" also allows season ticket holders to transfer tickets to whom ever they want, safely. This not only benefitted revenue, it also helped expand the fan base.
I think this was an extremely smart decision on behalf of the Sabres because it created an opportunity for other fans to experience true center ice viewing that they might not have had. I've been to games when there aren't a lot of people in the stands and it's depressing. I think with "My Replay" it also gives the players more support because they see all the people in the sands that came to cheer for them. The more people in the stands, the louder the crowd, the more support they get. I also believe that the more people in the stands, the more enjoyable the game
is to watch because there is always some sort of participation, whether it's chanting "Let's Go Buffalo" or seeing the Population Pominville signs.
