Red Sox Lock Up Pedroia

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
Earlier today the Boston Red Sox locked up the reigning AL MVP Dustin Pedroia for six years $40.5 million. This comes as the first major move of the Red Sox off season. Locking up Pedroia for the next six years assures the Red Sox of a great young second baseman who hustles, plays exceptional defense and hits well. Any teamdustin_pedroia1.jpg in the Major League who love to have a player with the talent and heart of Pedroia, and the Red Sox are lucky they locked him up for years to come. What comes as a shock is that the Sox got Pedroia for such a low price for how many years they signed him for. Pedroia is worth more than the money they gave hime but he was willing to take less money because he loves his team. Pedroia stated "I understood all that stuff. I understood that if I went year-to-year I probably would have made more money. But I'm in a place that I love". It looks like the Red Sox are set for a long time at the second base position.

With Pedroia hot, Sox like their chances

dustin pedroia.jpg  The one problem the Red Sox had this post-season was the non-affectiveness of Dustin Pedroia at the plate.  Going 1-17 in the American League Division Series against the Angels and batting .100 going in to the second game of the American League Division series against the Rays, it seemed as though the American League MVP award candidate was in a slump.  This all changed in game 2 in Tampa Bay.  Pedroia went 3 for 5 with 4 runs and 2 runs batted in. His 2 RBI's came off of the 2 home runs that he hit.  He was asked if he changed his approach and it seemed as though he just needed some hits to fall in.  He was making contact the hits were just not falling in.  During the regular season he was nothing short of fantastic, with his MVP like numbers in only his second season in the Major Leagues.  With Pedroia swinging the bat well the Rays are going to have to look out for the 5'9" spark plug.

With the American League Champoionship Series heading back to Boston, the Red Sox have regained the home field advantage by taking 1 of 2 from the Tampa Bay Rays.  With Dustin Pedroia's bat not being affective the other parts of the lineup had to step up.  Now with Pedroia hot again, it seems as though the Red Sox will be firing on all cylinders.  The Rays should watch out for the energy that a playoff game brings to Fenway Park.  The Rays may have had the Sox's number in the regular season but, everything changes with a playoff game  and all of Red Sox Nation ready to host another ALCS game. It will be interesting to watch as the inexperienced Rays handle Fenway in this atmosphere especially now with Pedroia heating up.
