Baseball Cards That Come To Life

Topps, one of the baseball card industries largest companies, has teamed up with Total Immersion to create an interactive 3D Baseball Card.  The surge of popularity of trading cards seen in the 1990's and early 2000's has slowed down significantly of lateTopps 3D Live.jpeg.  These new Topp's 3D Live Trading Cards are the answer to this drop in sales, by repositioning their product to include these features they are hoping to revolutionize the trading card industry.
Total Immersion's technology known as Augmented Reality is used to 'fuel' these interactive baseball cards.  Augmented Reality, which was also used to create the new movie Avatar, is a new technology that merges real life images with virtual images.  Through this technology the consumer holds up one of Topp's 3D Live Trading Cards to their webcam's, after recognizing the card a 3D Image of the corresponding athlete appears on the screen.  From there the consumer can move the athlete around by moving the card in front of the webcam.  Athlete's also perform associated activities to make these trading cards more interactive.  For example, with an Albert Pujols trading card you will be able to practice batting.
The Topps 3D Live trading cards were first introduced in March 2009 with only baseball cards but in September 2009 football cards were added to the product line to coincide with the start of the 2009 NFL Season.  These trading cards are sold for around $5 dollars for each pack of cards.
