Yankee Stadium.jpgThe world of sports has become the site of the newest and most innovative technologies created.  Every new stadium that is constructed is filled with state of the art equipment that is a step above all other stadiums.  Technology giant Cisco Systems has teamed up with the New York Yankees to assure that the new Yankee Stadium, is the most fan friendly technologically advanced stadium in all of sports.  The main focus point of the partnership is the creation and implementation of "Cisco StadiumVision".

StadiumVision includes a 103' x 58' 1080p display. This acts as the main scoreboard for the new stadium. Along with this enormous screen are 1,100 HD Monitors throughout the stadium that are linked to display anything from traffic delays, emergency exits, starting lineups or live game action. This makes navigating in and around the stadium a breeze as you will never be out of the loop. There will also be Internet/Protocol Touch Screen Phones inside all the luxury sweets to control these monitors as well as order food or setup video conferencing. Cisco is also doing major enhancements on the Yankees' internet connections in there offices as well as installing touch screen PCs in every home locker. This entire network plus equipment is expected to cost the New York Yankees between 15 and 16 million dollars.

Jeter sept21.jpgHaving made a very impressive second half playoff run last year, the New York Yankees went into spring training planning on going to the postseason for 14th straight year. With a bulk of both their starting lineup and rotation returning, they saw no reason why they could not win their division, or at the least win the wild card. "When we went into Spring Training, I thought we'd be playing Oct. 1," Girardi said on a recent interview. But unfortunately for the organization, fans, and players, 2008 wasn't as friendly as it was to the Yankees in the prior year. Early in the season, some key members of starting lineups, went down with severe injuries, such as Chien-Ming Wang, Jorge Posada, Hideki Matsui, and even the reigning AL MVP Alex Rodriguez missed a couple weeks. Having started their season in a slump, but still staying in contention, everyone was poised to watch the Yankees pull of another second half tear. After the last All-Star game played in Yankees Stadium, "The house that Ruth built", the New York Bombers started the second half on a tear, with a 7 game win streak that had them breathing down the necks of the Boston Red Sox, and the surprise team of the 2008 season, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. But that's just when things turned into the beginning of the end for their 2008 season. After going on a lengthy road trip that pushed the team back to 10 games behind the division leader Devil Rays through mid-August. Eventually come late September, the Yankees were all but out of contention, and on September 21st, with the playoff run all certain to end within the next couple days, the Yankees fans still had something to celebrate. The final game at the historic Yankees Stadium was played on this date against the Baltimore Orioles, which results in a 6-2 victory for the Yankees. With pregame ceremonies running all day at the stadium so fans could reminisce all of the historic and memorable memories, it was almost as if this was a World Series game. Even though the Yankees were going to miss the playoffs for the first time since 1994, the crowd still roared as the last out was made, by one of the all-time great Yanks, Mariano Rivera. With the Yankees 2008 season over, they have much to look forward in the next season, such as starting a new playoff run hopefully, and the beginning of their new Stadium across the street to make new memories in.

SportingNews.com  is reporting that the New York Yankees new stadium is going to cost around $1.6 billion grd.pngdollars.  Many General  Manager's from around the league have discussed how a new stadium can bring a "whole new face to a franchise." This is considered to be true for the New York Yankees franchise as the new stadium shows off the vast amount of money the Yankees were able to throw into the project.  The new stadium is impressive in style boasting a Hard Rock café, a martini car and a steak house.  Bringing a high class atmosphere to the ball park is something that more and more teams are looking to bring into their ballparks.

Who knows what the future will hold for athletic venues throughout the country.  It is expected that the Yankees will not only make back the $1.6 billion spent on construction, but they are anticipated to make much more than that. "What they're going to get from their seats alone," says Padres executive vice president/CFO Fred Gerson, "is more than almost every other team will make in total income." The Yankee franchise is once again showing that it they are trying to be the world's team and draw as much attention to New York as possible. Hey, maybe this upgrade in venue will actually get some decent baseball players to come out and get the team back on track. Poor George is certainly hoping for this, after it was just learned the Bronx Bombers were going to miss the playoffs since 1995.

At any rate, with the building of this new shrine stuck in the middle of the Bronx, with the Major Deegan Expressway behind it, just next to it goes down so many years of tradition and memories. The Yankees will without a doubt look to make a new start of it in 2009 with a brand new home around them. As an avid Yankee fan, I've got faith in them. Go Yanks!!

Doors Close After 85 Years

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

yankees.jpegOn ESPN.com an article was published about the last night at Yankee Stadium. The author clearly exemplifies the magic of that stadium and the way the former players, current players, family, friends, and fans felt about those 85 years at East 161st and River Avenue.  Everyone took in the memories that once took place on that very field. Fans were given an opportunity to walk around the warning track and many hand prints were left on the outfield wall.

This was definitely a night to remember in Yankee history.  So many Yankee greats were in one place at one time to relive their old memories. Fans were at the field six hours before the game started and most were still there an hour after the game had ended. The fans enjoyed the players and the players enjoyed the fans, many players stated that this ballpark was so special because of the fans. Derek Jeter even made a speech after the game saying that he was relying in the fans to carry these old memories from one stadium to another. The only thing that was missing for me was the absence of Joe Torre and Don Mattingly. But this was a night that no Yankee player or fan will forget.
